Yesterday, Monday the 5th of December marked international volunteer day where we show our recognition and support for those promoting good health and wellbeing through community league activities. Earlier this year, Brighton Seagulls President and STG JRL Director Bruce Hartley was presented with the award of volunteer of the year for the southern Sydney region at the NSWRL 2022 community awards. Hartley founded Brighton Seagulls and has contributed 60 years to the game.
At our AGM which coincided with international volunteer day, president Gary Fa’afua recognised everyone’s contributions from the presidents and secretaries all the way to the ground managers, people on the barbeques and in the canteens. He also recognised the tireless work of coaches, trainers and everyone involved in the junior league who help set up fields and pack them up who make sure everyone gets on the field safely and have the skills to have fun and be active. This year we also had the largest development squad ever including over 40 volunteer staff from various clubs within the junior league who gave up extra time in the week to mentor those involved.
Without these contributions from all involved we would not be able to provide the game for all. 2023 is rolling around the corner and clubs need the help of those in the community whether it be an hour before your kids game when they warm up or coming early to set up the fields or staying back to pack them down we hope you can join our legion of volunteers to ensure that everyone in the community can benefit from an improved participant experience.
Thank you to all involved.
